I do feel a little bad for Set though, all he believed ended up being a massive lie after it was proven that the previous King was infertile. Yet he still didn't want to give up which ended up costing him his life but I guess hearing something like that would leave him to be irrational.

The scene between Leo and Anubis was sweet, I can't imagine how guilty Anubis must feel after learning how much he's been hurting Leo but I like that Leo still wants him around, is able to look past those comments because he wants his friend by his side. I'm sure Anubis also felt some jealousy by Sariphi getting to experience Leo's warmth so I'm glad he was able to feel his warmth after all these years. Leo calling him Sirius was a great touch.

Nice to finally learn the origin of Leo's birth, I'm glad his father was able to experience love and I'm glad Leo learnt that he was loved by his parents and that his birth was wished for after believing he never was loved by the previous king. He really needed to read that diary and I'm sure it's resolved a lot of his inner turmoils.

It was nice to see the couple in their wedding atires, they can finally stand proud as husband and wife, King and Queen, I just wish we got a proper kiss scene lol. It sucks they cop out of it especially when we know a beast and human copulated since that is how Leo was born.

Time skip was cool to see, seeing Richard Leo and Sariphi's son and what his personality is like. I know there is a sequel manga so it'd be cool if it eventually got an adaptation since I believe this has season was a full adaptation of the manga. I wish we got to see older Sariphi animated but I'm glad we got to see a shot of her at least.

KingKrash • 7 months ago

It was a nice detail that Sariphi and Leo give Richard the original name that Leo was going to get, likely to honor his parents.

Alecavalleri ♀️ • 7 months ago

Wait, a sequel? That's the first I've heard of it, I'll be off to search for it!

This is where the main story manga ended.
Now, we pray for the spin-off manga become available on website.
The spin-off is about their son and 2 hunters.

There's one thing many of you might have noticed, the peace negotiation between beast and human aren't shown yet.
I believe it will be done in the spin-off.

Spin-off Manga: Shiro Usagi to Kemono Ouji

I wanted to see the moment when Princess Tetra saying "Where is that evil-god-mother of a Canceller?" and Anubis answers "Were you looking for me?" 🀣 He totally knew they thought of him like that

Leave it to Leonhart to ACTUALLY make Sirius a godfather.

hope that one gets animated as well xd

And thus Richard was born, with his mother hair and his father eyes

Noah Winns-Cromer • 7 months ago

Imagine being Sari's parents. Hell, imagine being her sister.

You all sacrificed her to the King of Ozmargo. Sometime has passed and word is she's become the princess and eventually queen, chosen by the King himself, and has improved lives for both humanity and beastkin.

And now your little girl has given birth to a child.

Kristel Thom • 7 months ago

Their loss lol. The important thing is that Sari is living her life with a real family and great friends.

xXPORTALXx • 7 months ago

Eh we never really know anything about her parents, her 'family' she knows bought her as a substitute for their own daughter if they got chosen as tribute lol so really she was human trafficked twice!

Leon • 7 months ago

I wish we could still get stories like this in the west, but nope, the idea of a feminine motherly woman that tames the dangerous beast of a man to make him his best possible version worthy of her... Is now offensive to modern wamen. At least it's good that the east can still put out nice stories like this.

00ammy00 • 7 months ago

Yeah lol if the west had written this story Sariphi would've learned sword-fighting and easily become the best at it out of all the other beasts, including the men, and she would've saved Leonhart by defeating Set all on her own with her OP girlboss skills, then declined marrying Leo and becoming queen because she's realized she's her own woman (in fact she'd abolish the whole monarchy because it's outdated and clearly not the right way to govern, and instead introduce the idea of democracy, which of course Leonhart and all the other beasts will immediately agree with and put into effect), probably would've opted to going off and traveling the world on her own to single-handedly rid the world of prejudice, all while running her own business.

KingKrash • 7 months ago

okay, this sounded like a nice plot idea that kinda exists INTILL you got to the part where she rejects the king just for the sake of "independence" <---which is the kinda annoying thing western writers sometimes do.

Some folks need to learn that Happy tropes like romance and comedy are perfectly fine and that a story doesn't need to be overly serious or have a dramatic twist to be good.

Junnie Mae • 7 months ago

All hail King Leo and Queen Sari! Also grats on them having a child too! :] It was a wonderful end to one of the gems. Love it to the end.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 7 months ago

Sacrificial Princess is brought to you by JC Staff, AKA the McDonald's of anime and also the definition of a mixed bag, as they're the studio behind Danmachi, Food Wars, Toradora, Golden Time, Edens Zero, Maid-sama, Prison School, OPM S2, and recently Seven Spellblades and Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, among others, they've quite the resume.

I assume y'all know the Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, the OG, not the 2017 remake with Emma Watson as Belle and Josh Gad playing a gay Lefou? Well, imagine the Disney classic in a fantasy setting in a realm of beasts with a touch of anime, and this show is what you get.

One of the best parts are the two leads, Satoshi Hino and Kana Hanazawa as Leonhart and Sariphi respectively, as you feel like they care for each other. Anytime Cy and Clops show up, I just wanna smile and wish I can hug them. And I love the political drama as what's seen here is similar to what you and I deal with IRL; for every Sariphi, Leonhart, and Lante, there's a Set, Fenrir, and Iiya. However, there ARE drawbacks. The antagonists are OK....whereas Fenrir isn't gonna be the best anime villain of 2023 you do get his motivations, whereas Set is the definition of your average Twitter user or Reddit/Discord mod. The show also could've used an extra 2 episodes. As far as anime couples this year, Sari and Leo are rather forgettable when compared to, say, Kubo-san and Junta, or Mahiru and Amane.

And this is a personal gripe. For a barefoot waifu, Sari doesn't have any notable foot scenes when compared to someone like Morgiana from Magi, Radical Edward, Mavis (alongside Lucy and Erza) from Fairy Tail, or Erio Towa from Denpa Onna. I feel letdown.

Overall, it's a shame that this was overlooked, and IMO, one of the best anime this year, and a better shoujo JC's put out than Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. Though TBF, let's be honest, nobody was gonna turn into this in April when Oshi no Ko was airing. Same with Skip to Loafer, Dangers of my Heart, and Insomniacs After School, also overlooked good anime. Sacrificial Princess does play it safe but it's a nice watch I think those into fantasy and shoujo will enjoy.
1st Cour: 8/10
2nd Cour: 8/10
Final Verdict: 8/10

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 7 months ago

Lol you mentioning Sariphi never gets a notable foot scene is amusing.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 7 months ago

Like, not a toe scrunch, nor a close up sole shot, NOTHING!

The show robbed me in that department....XD

KingKrash • 7 months ago

at this point seeing your reactions are just amusing and refreshing, have a wonderful day Noah!

Lopaka Nitu • 7 months ago

I think he just outed his own fetish...

Although from an animation standpoint, the possible scenes they could have done were overlooked. Being barefoot, you're more conscious of what you're stepping on; some playful stepping/balancing through grass/flowers/gravel on a sunny day with Leo, cy, and clops would have been some wholesome content. Even just small details of foot placement, stepping to avoid certain rocks, sticks, etc. would have changed the way she walked/ran to give her movement a little more life and realness to it.

brierom • 7 months ago

Yeap, just like what I predicted: this show was and is still heavily overlooked.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 7 months ago

Pretty much yes T^T

Tzadoq Eli • 7 months ago

I Knew it from the beggining it some what relates to the "Beauty and the Beast", liked it all, though it also combines a bit with the set up and story of Hurrem and Suleiman the Magnificent.

McBuilds • 7 months ago

Nooo so sad its ended, but what a great series. And the ending could not have been more perfect :)

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 7 months ago

And thus Niehime to Kemono no Ou (Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts) has come to a end.
Source: Manga.
Genre: Fantasy, romance, shoujo.
Studio: J.C.Staff.
(Known studio with quite long resume of titles they've have done, (which someone has said it's a mix bag.).. They have done Danmachi, Prison School, Toradora, Bakuman, Ikki Tousen S1, OPM S2, Taboo Tattoo, Kusuo Saiki, three anime they've done for the (summer 2023) season which is/was Seven Spellblades, Duke of Death and his Maid S2, And Sugar Happy Fairy Tail.)

Personal thoughts:
The author of this "Yu Tomofuji" must have made this from the fame fairy tail of Beauty and the Beast that he in mind since already one has stated this in they're review and others pointed out in comments alone. Which I knew right away when first watching this.

As for the idea of putting a full base beastkind and human was a good premise and works really well many isekai/fantasy works use the idea trope all the time.
Sariphi is cheeky and sweet and her bodyguard/honey man Lionheart/Leo was both stong upfronted and yet complex gentle inside.

The pace was really good all the way through even from word of mouth that some arcs were skipped and the near end seem rush just to finish. the animation consistent and the OP's to ED's were great and I'm not gonna play faves on which one('s') was the best.

Cy & Clops were to adorable every time I see them, Amit was a peach ^^ and hopes her and Jormungand's does sail. Also he was great wingman of times. Abi was a pain at first but grew to like as time went on with the story. As far as villain's goes Fenrir backstory was logical to get behind but his motivation what he stand for crazy, even more so for Set whom I felt sorry for a bit.

The story from going from sacrifice to marriage candidate to full queen was put together pretty well and more so with Leo as being a half of each.

Last words:
As some already pointed out.. This's look/pass over for other titles and is slept on T^T
But as far as romances goes this's season and this's a leftover from previous.. This's one of the best romances this season and in my top 5 romances being in the number 2 spot.
Most disappointments were no older version of Sariphie + no progression with Amit X Jormungand' ship T^T

8.2/10

I love how the story goes and its ending. I wouldn't mind to re watch it again. But if there's season 2, i would definitely watch it

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 7 months ago

There won't be a S2 since this finish it's source material last chapters, but probably be a spinoff since there is post to be a spinoff manga of this.

Grandpa Lampshade • 7 months ago

This was a wonderful story and thank goodness it got 24 episodes so that we could enjoy it all the way through. I think the pacing was fine. I know some have pointed out that some arcs seemed a little rushed but overall I think they did an excellent job covering the material and making it all fit in the allotted episodes. Anibus with his trials actually did the most as far as enabling Sariphi to be accepted as queen. She struggled through and actually won approval from the different factions/elements in the kingdom which gave her real standing besides "The king says so". From winning the acceptance of the sea beasts (what amounts to the entire navy of the kingdom) to letting the one ear wolf take her in order to protect the everyday soldiers on the ship, she really managed to earn her spot and even though that wasn't his intention, Anibus was largely responsible for a lot of that.
Side note: It's nice to see that not everyone has forgotten that you can have a good fantasy world story without having to involve a truck and reincarnation.
